Flavor

Described as a mild, simple early red tomato valued more for its speed and cold setting than for depth of flavor. This is the recurring catalog and grower description, not a measured claim.

Origin

An extremely early determinate tomato developed in Canada for cold, short seasons, often called one of the world's earliest tomatoes, bearing clusters of small red fruit on a compact unstaked bush.

What it does well

  • Among the earliest tomatoes in the world, ripening very fast from transplant
  • Sets fruit early and under cool summer conditions
  • Compact determinate bush that needs no staking and can be planted close

Where it frustrates

  • Small fruit, around 2 oz
  • Flavor is mild and less complex than later heirloom slicers
