Flavor

Described as very sweet, with vine-ripened fruit rated consistently as having very good flavor and high sugar. This is the recurring catalog and grower description, not a measured claim.

Origin

An F1 hybrid campari or cocktail type developed at North Carolina State University's Mountain Horticultural Crops Research and Extension Center.

What it does well

  • High resistance to late blight from the Ph-2 and Ph-3 genes
  • Good early blight resistance plus resistance to verticillium and fusarium wilt
  • Firm and highly crack resistant
  • High yielding and well suited to the Northeast

Where it frustrates

  • An F1 hybrid, so saved seed will not grow true
  • Indeterminate vines need staking, trellising, or caging
